Expert Tips from Practice
Interview with Annik from kinna.ch, kindergarten interior design specialist
We asked Annik, an interior specialist for kindergartens and partner of Kibemo, what really matters when it comes to furnishing.
What should be paid particular attention to when setting up a kindergarten?
Room design in kindergartens is of central importance. The room acts as a "third educator" and supports children in their development.
A well-thought-out kindergarten interior offers security, opportunities for retreat, but also space for movement, initiative, and participation.
If the furniture is functional and child-friendly, fewer conflicts arise and both children and teachers feel more comfortable in everyday life. This promotes the quality of the entire teaching.
What principles are the Kibemo and kinna kindergarten inventory lists based on?
Our inventory list for kindergarten furnishings is based on the kinnaraum concept, which focuses on reduction, clarity, and flexibility.
We recommend a minimalist setup with natural wood shelves, preferably on castors, to allow for flexible room design. The furniture is designed at children's eye level and promotes independence.
The idea is inspired by Montessori education: fewer stimuli, more orientation, more space for independent learning.
Why do you work with Kibemo?
Kibemo is an ideal partner for me because the company combines high quality, flexibility, and expert advice.
In addition to its standard range, Kibemo also offers custom-made solutions, enabling individual room concepts to be implemented for kindergartens.
Thanks to well-organized logistics, many pieces of furniture can be delivered quickly. In this way, we create high-quality kindergarten facilities together – from a single source.
Who is the kindergarten inventory list for?
The inventory list is intended for anyone involved in setting up a kindergarten:
- Teachers
- School administration
- Caretakers
- Decision-makers in the budgeting process
It contains all the necessary furniture for a functional, harmonious, and structured kindergarten environment.
What is the average budget for a kindergarten facility in Switzerland?
This heavily depends on the scope of the furnishing. For an empty kindergarten room without cloakroom and wall cabinets, we recommend a budget of approx. CHF 25,000 to 30,000.
If cloakrooms, wall cabinets or play materials are added, the amount can easily double. Those who want to plan as efficiently as possible benefit from sourcing everything from a single provider – this saves time and costs.
What role does materialization play in kindergarten furnishing?
We recommend a color-neutral design with light natural wood. Children and play materials bring enough color into the room.
That is why we deliberately work with wooden surfaces, semi-transparent boxes, and subtle carpets. Kibemo offers suitable, modern, and sustainable solutions here.
Which spatial zones should a kindergarten cover?
Our inventory list focuses on five main areas:
- Workspaces and Circle Time: Seating at different heights for each child
- Order and Organization: Closed cabinets for materials, open shelves for children
- Teacher: Own workspace and storage, designed to be low-stimulation
- Wardrobe: Functional solutions for clothing, gym bags, etc.
- Play and Learning Areas: Building, role-playing, crafting, quiet corner, movement
How do customers benefit from the partnership between kinna and Kibemo?
Our collaboration combines expertise in interior design with quality furniture and efficient implementation.
Customers receive individual advice, a coherent kindergarten inventory list, fast delivery and professional support from planning to implementation.
